I was recently asked (by a friend!), what achievements I was most proud of in my life to date. Hmmm. Uncomfortable and challenging. Strangely, the good things all seemed to have come from adversity.
In 2018, a general disillusionment with the world found me randomly leaving kindness cards in public places, inviting people to do something kind and email to let me know what they did. And boy, did they do things!. To cut a very long story short, I founded The Cool To Be Kind Project in 2018 and to date 25,000 cards have been sent/dropped off/shared around the world.

The very clever Jules Brooke introduced me to ‘How To Handle Your Own PR’, which I very bravely did; this in turn led to local press and radio interviews, and online connections with Arianna Huffington, who published my article in the Thrive Global, Mia Freedman and Kate Hudson (with Goldie Hawn in the background!).
By this stage I had also worked out that The Cool To Be Kind Project could spin off in so many different directions. (new business enterprises - look out for this!) One spoke in this ever-spinning wheel was a realisation that a kinder world starts with the people in it, and the younger they are, the better they learn. So I wrote and published a rhyming children’s book, 'One Kind Day' for primary age use. It was well received despite a poor self-publishing exercise (my first disastrous business venture!) and was picked up by my old school in Adelaide. I was really proud to be able to read my book to the junior primary children via Zoom during their ‘Kindness Week’.
However, privately I was struggling again. Ongoing battles with infertility led to a hysterectomy, which of course means no children. Again I wrote, and this time the story was shared in Mamamia. Yet again I was stunned at the response, at how many were out there suffering the same grief.
I knew beyond doubt that every time I reached out to the world, the world reached right back. And reaching out for mutual benefit, support and strength is the essence of Turning Pages.

To wind up, I might refer to an upbringing as an ‘expat’ kid, in four different postings. This was an unusual and often amazing life which offered all kinds of cultural awareness as I became a young adult. Friends, when you see the problems women face in other parts of the world, you realise that all things truly are possible in this luckiest of countries.
So let’s get on and do them!
